Abstract

442,662. Type-printing telegraphy. SIEMENS & HALSKE AKT.-GES., Siemensstadt, Berlin. Oct. 1, 1935, No. 27097. Convention date, Oct. 5, 1934. [Class 40 (iii)] A keyboard transmitter for type-printing telegraphy comprises a character signal storing device and an arrangement whereby when a character key and the case-shift key are actuated simultaneously the case-shaft signal is automatically set up on the same storage device. The signals are stored by pins 31, Fig. 1, on a storage disc 19 comprising two ratchet wheels. Actuation of the type key 1 releases the storage spindle 11 through a release bar 2, pawl 3 and lever 4 and sets the combination bars 80-84 which adjust the arcuate extensions 86 of levers 85 over a predetermined selection of the pins 31. A lever 40 controlled by a cam 12 on the spindle 11 presses the selected pins 31 through the disc 19 by coacting with the extensions 86 and the disc is moved forward one step by a pawl 41 on the lever 44 actuated by cam 13 on spindle 11. The reading-off members 24 ... 28, Fig. 2, on the other side of disc 19 are pivotally mounted on a plate 21 keyed to the spindle 20 and moved round with the disc 19 by the pawl 47. The reading-off movement of the members 24 ... 28 is effected by the release of pawl 47 through a lever 49 by a cam on the transmitting spindle 10 which is released for rotation by a lever 23 operated by a cam 48 on the shaft 20. The plate 21 thus returns one stop and the levers 24 ... 28 are positioned by pins 31 to co-operate with the contact levers 30 which actuate the transmitting contacts c. If the storage device is operated at a greater speed than the transmission of the signals, when the fifth combination is stored, a lever 76 operated by cam 50 on the spindle 20 locks the storage spindle 11 through cam 78 and also the keyboard in known manner. Storage of case-shift signal. When the caseshift key is operated simultaneously with a character key a change bar 87 is shifted to operate a shift lever 53, which thus has two positions, which through cam 15 on shaft 11 positions a rocker 54. In the right-hand position rocker 54 causes a lever 46 to be released through pawl 55 and holding pawl 56. The lever 46 is drawn against cam 14 and moved downward to advance the disc 19 one tooth through pawl 42 and to depress the centre pin of a row through lever 66 to set up the figureshift combination. The letter-shift combination is set up, when the rocker 54 moves to its other position, through members 59, 60, 45, 43 in a similar manner, this operation resulting in a movement of the disc 19 by one tooth only, no pins being moved for this combination. A modified but similar storage device is also described, Figs. 3, 4, 5 (not shown).
