466,673. Type-printing telegraphy. LORENZ AKT.-GES., C..Jan. 24, 1936, No. 2294. Convention date, Jan. 30, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] An " answer-back " device provided in a type-printing telegraph for the automatic transmission of a predetermined message, comprises an arrangement of cams acting directly on the transmitting contacts, the key mechanism being locked during the running down of the device. Release of answer-back device. The device is set into operation by depression of the key lever 29 which through pawl 30 operates lever 31 to remove a detent from disc 35 on the shaft 38 and to release the lever 32 for the step-by-step rotation of shaft 38 through. pawl 33 and ratchet wheel 34. The lever 29 is locked in its lower position. by the engagement of a pawl 36 with a recess in the lower end of lever 31. At the same time the main camshaft 11 is released for rotation through levers 7, 8 and lever 37 is operated to lock .the ordinary combination setting levers to free the cam-operated members 4 and lock the keyboard. Thereafter, each rotation of the camshaft 11 advances the wheel 34 one tooth through the reciprocation of the lever 32 by lever 14 and cam 15 and the character transmitted by the operation of contacts 13 by the members 4 is determined by notches on the discs 39 arranged on the answer-back shaft 38. At the end of one revolution of the shaft 38 the detent on lever 31 drops into the notch on disc 35, to release the key lever 29 and thus restore all the moving parts to rest. Control of answer-back device by distant subscriber. The distant subscriber sends a case-shift signal which by movement of the member 23 releases the detent 24 from the lever 25, and then a character signal which releases the pull rod 22 to be raised by the printer bar 20. This results in the release of detent 27 by actuation of the lever 26 to allow the rise of rod 28 and hence the depression of the key bar 29 by the lever 25. Disablement of answer-back device during signal transmission. During each normal rotation of the cam shaft 11- the bar 14 is lowered by the cam 15 allowing the lever 16 to rotate and slide a detent rod 18 through lever 17 to release a stop member 21 to prevent the pull rod 22 from being actuated.
