Abstract

491,491. Type printing telegraphs. TELEFONBAU UND NORMALZEIT AKT.- GES. Dec. 31, 1936, No. 35877. Convention date, Dec. 31, 1935. [Class 40 (iii)] In a telegraph transmitter of the kind having motor driven contact actuating members which are set by intermediate members which are themselves set by permutation members, the permutation members are provided with springs by means of which they are selectively moved when a key is depressed and auxiliary mechanism, set by the depression of a key, holds the intermediate members in the position in which they are set by the key until the setting of the contact actuating members in accordance with the setting of the intermediate members has been completed. Depression of a key tilts a latch 15 to release a stop bar 10, pivoted on a rod 11, under the action of a spring 19. This allows such permutation bars (a-e) as are not held by the depressed key to move to the right so tilting corresponding levers 32 (a-e) about their pivots. The movement of the stop bar 10, by means of an arm 43 and lever 50, also causes the depression of a plate 55 and five associated hook-shaped members 51 (a-e) each of which holds its corresponding lever 32 in the actuated or unactuated position. The arm 43 also allows, by pawl mechanism 40, one revolution of the contact operating shaft 22. This carries five discs 29 (a-e) capable of slight movement relative to the shaft 22 and so mounted that when a projection 34 strikes a corresponding projection 33 on a lever 32 this movement takes place against the action of a spring 31 and the appropriate rod 28 (a - e) is allowed to shoot forward under the action of a spring 27 (a-e) carrying with it a contact operating cam 23 (a-e) as described in Specification 389,999. After being set by the levers 32 the discs 29 force these back against springs 35 and pass them. Signal impulses are sent during the remainder of the revolution by means of the cams 23 and immediately the discs have passed the levers 32 the latter are unlocked and restored to their normal position by cam mechanism Fig. 1 (not shown) operated by the driven shaft 22. The contact cams and discs are reset in their original positions after actuating the contacts. If a second key is depressed before the first revolution is completed it serves merely to set and lock the intermediate levers 32 in the new position until these have reset the contact operating discs.
