[Classes 52 (iii) and 52 (v)] An adjustable desk comprises a pair of spaced pillars 21 with feet 20, members 22 slidably adjustable on the pillars and carrying the desk top board 25 by pivots 31, a slide 37 adjustable for height on each of the sliding members 22 and a pair of links 41 each of which is connected at its opposite ends to a side of the board and to the adjacent slide 37. The pillars 21 are of square section and the slidable members 22 comprise square sleeves carrying at the top castings 23 forming bearings for the board and supporting inkwells 34, springs 80 being interposed between the castings 23 and the tops of the pillars. Each pillar is provided with a series of holes for engagement by a spring-pressed pin 29 on the sleeve. The board 25 is supported on a square section tube 36 carrying the pivots 31 and channel members 33 into which fit the two halves of the board. Each sleeve 22 has slidable upon it a pair of collars 37, 38 lockable in any position by spring-pressed pins 39 engaging holes in the sleeve, and the links 41 are releasably pivoted by pins 43 to the collars at their lower ends so that by releasing the links from the collars the board can be reversed. The spring pins may be retainable in the withdrawn position. A tip-up shelf 77 is hinged at 47 to the lower collars 37 and supported in the position of use by links 45 engaging flanges 46 on the collars. A fixed shelf may be supported between the two upper collars. Fig. 6 shows a modification in which the sleeves 22 are connected by cross-bracing 52 and have each a vertical projecting rib 53 on which is mounted a slide 54 carrying pivotally a link 41 the upper end of which has an inwardly-projecting pin 55 which fits in a hole 56 in the side of the board and is held therein by a spring catch 57 releasable by a finger grip 58. A pair of holes 56 is provided in each side of the board so that it can be reversed. The rib 53 has a series of indentations 61 engaged by a spring catch on the slide. Friction between the slidable parts is minimized by teak inserts 40, 27, which, in the form shown in Fig. 6, are carried by removable panels 51 on each side of the sleeves 22 and within collars 70 at the lower ends of the sleeves. A tray 66 is pivoted to one of the sleeves, and held in horizontal position by a bracket on its under side. Ink-wells 69 are carried by the panels 51. The cross-bracing between the sleeves may be replaced by a locker. The board may be provided with hinged extension flaps. Specification 4574/00, [Class 98], is referred to.
