Abstract
538,255. Adjustable tables, seats &c. MANN, EGERTON & CO., Ltd., and STOKES, F. W. May 17, 1940, No. 8855. [Classes 52 (ii) and 52 (iii) ] Articles of furniture such as desks, seats &c. comprising a relatively adjustable base and upper portion by means of spaced shoulders on one portion engaging an abutment on the other portion have the shoulders arranged to slide along the faces of two members to which they are connected by pins and slots to enable them to swing about a horizontal axis. The Figure shows a desk the top 6 of which has two depending slides 7, 8 provided with longitudinal slots 9 engaging pins 10 on base standards 1, 2. On each slide is a ratchet 12 forming spaced shoulders engaging plates 13 on a rail 4. The desk may be provided with a hinged top 6 supported by slotted struts 16 retained in position by wing nuts 17. A rack 18 for a drawing board may be mounted at the back of the desk and the top may have a ledge 6a retained by studs passing through slots 6b so shaped that when the left ends of the slots engage the studs the upper edge of the ledge is flush with top of the desk and when the other ends of the slots are engaged the. ledge is raised to support a drawing board 19. A tray 22 for holding pencils &c. may be hinged at 23 to the support 2.
