Abstract

489,810. Control of several motors. IGRANIC ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. July 24, 1937. No. 20548. Convention date, July 24, 1936. [Class 38 (iii)] Continuous reversals.-Each of a number of motors 5, 6, 7, which may drive the cylinders of a washing machine, is periodically reversed under the control of respective cam-shaft controllers, and means are provided whereby the relative angular positions of the controllers may readily be adjusted during normal use to give correct timing of the reversal of the motors. The reversing control is effected by contactors 10, 11, controlled by cam-shafts 28 actuating contacts 33a, 34b, 44b, and 45a, and the cam-shafts are driven by respective pilot motors 14. The relative angular positions of the several cam-shafts are initially adjusted by means of discs 31 marked with the legends shown, so that the adjustment is determined by the number of motors forming an operative group. The pilot motors may be used for the adjustment by operation of switches 17, and, the motors are grouped by closing switches 21 and 20, the switches 17 being operated to their left-hand positions. Where three motors of a group operate, one disc 31 is moved to register the legend 3<1> with its pointer 47, the next disc is adjusted to the legend 3<2>, and so on, two of the legends 2<1>, 2<2>, being employed where only two motors operate. The marking of the discs for a group of eight motors is described with reference to Fig. 2 (not shown). By the initial adjustment of the cam-shafts the relative angular displacement of the shafts is made appropriate to the number of motors operating and the reversing of the motors is effected in a suitable timed sequence. Instead of the singlephase pilot motors (as shown), the cam-shafts may be operated by respective ratchet mechanisms actuated by respective electromagnets energized intermittently in common from an intermittent contact maker driven by a single pilot motor which may be electrical or mechanical. The cams may operate reversing switches directly.
