Abstract

489,666. Television ; converting. MARCONI'S WIRELESS TELEGRAPH CO., Ltd. Feb. 1, 1937, No. 2951. Convention date, Jan. 31, 1936. [Class 40 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXV] A complex wave form is produced by generating an electrical wave, deriving therefrom a shaped impulse, delaying the impulse to produce another impulse, and combining the two impulses to produce the complex wave. The invention is applied to developing a television synchronizing signal comprising line synchronizing impulses and frame synchronizing impulses, the latter consisting of impulses at twice the line frequency separated by longer pulses, as shown at 52. A master oscillator 1 produces oscillations which are subjected to frequency subdivision at 2 to produce the frame frequency. These oscillations at frame frequency are shaped at 4 to produce impulses 6 at frame frequency, and these are applied to a delay network 9, 11 from which tappings 13, 14, 16 are taken so that pulses 22, 23, 24 are produced, each phase shifted with respect to the others. The pulses 22, 23, 24 are combined to produce the complex wave 27 which recurs at frame frequency. The oscillator 1 is also applied to shaping devices 28, 43 to produce line frequency impulses 31, 45. The impulses 31 are applied to a network 32 from which tappings 30, 34 are taken to produce impulses shifted with respect to each other by such an amount that when they are combined, a sequence 38 is produced of impulses at double the line frequency. This sequence is applied to an amplifier 37 biassed by a pulse 39, derived from the frame frequency source 2, so that it only passes the pulses at frame frequency, thus producing a group 42 of impulses at frame frequency. The pulses 27, 42 are mixed to produce the frame synchronizing signal. The line synchronizing signals 45 are gapped at frame frequency by an amplifier 44 biassed similarly to amplifier 37, and are then mixed with the frame synchronizing signal to produce the final train 52.
