Abstract

489,549. Railway rail joints. BROGDEN, A. N. Jan. 26, 1937, No. 2252. [Class 104 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] In a lap joint of the kind shown in Fig. 3, the vertical overlapping faces are formed with complementary concave and convex surfaces, such as the single curve 12, 13 of Fig. 1 or the double curve 14, 15 of Fig. 2. The curved surfaces may be formed by mounting the rails 1 on the peripheries of drums 16 mounted in bearings 17 in headstocks 18 which support boring and turning tools 19 operating on the ends 3 and 4 of the rails. The intermediate drums 16 are carried by tyred wheels 20, 20a mounted on a cylinder 21 and engaged by track wheels 22. The drums are rotated by a shaft 26 through gear-wheels 24, 25.
