Abstract

489,493. Spray carburetters. HOLLEY, G. M. Jan. 22, 1937, No. 1956. Convention date, Jan. 28, 1936. [Class 7 (iii)] To increase the vacuum in the mixing chamber of a carburetter in which the suction draws fuel through a pipe 22 from a low-lying tank to a float chamber 25 when the vehicle is climbing a hill or during the early stages of acceleration from a low engine speed, a weight 12 is attached to a suction-actuated air valve 11. The weight swings from a position in which the plane passing through the axis of the air valve and the centre of gravity of the weight is less than 40‹ to the vertical, when the air valve is closed, to a position of over 70‹, when the air valve is wide open, and the vehicle on a horizontal plane. Movement of the air valve controls a valve 32 which regulates the quantity of air drawn through a byepass 29 containing a Venturi 28, the throat of which is connected by a pipe 27 to the top of the float chamber. The fuel supply to passages 44 discharging into a Venturi 18 mounted in a second byepass 17 is controlled by a valve 42 actuated by a hook 39 connected to the throttle valve 21.
