489,153. Covers for holding periodicals &c. NITZ, (nee MULLER), E., and HAGEMANN, (nÚe JUNGMANN), J. Jan. 12, 1938, No. 1045. Convention date, Jan. 15, 1937. [Class 146 (i)] A cover for holding periodicals, folded sheets, or the like by means of pivoted bars c engaging the folds of the sheets is provided with locking means for the free ends of the bars pivoted in the longitudinal direction of the bars, whereby each bar can be released independently of the remainder. The bars 5 are hinged on rods 3 alternately at opposite ends of the back of the cover, their free ends having slots 6 to engage the rods 3. Corresponding to each bar 5 and pivotally-mounted on the rod adjacent to its free end is a locking-device 8 formed by bending a piece of sheet-metal into a U-shape. Inwardly-struck projections 16 in the sides 10 of the device snap into a hole 7 in the end of the bar to lock the bar in sheet-retaining position. The web 12 of the locking-device 8 is extended to form a fingerpiece 13 and its edges 15 are flared outwardly to facilitate the introduction of the bar 5 between the sides 10. A lug 14 joining the sides 10 lifts the end of the bar 5 when the device 8 is moved to releasing position. Each bar 5 with its associated device 8 can be movable laterally on the rods 3 springs being provided to press the bars 5 and devices 8 together.
