Abstract

488,944. Steam superheaters. SUPERHEATER CO., Ltd., and BOYES, F. A. Jan. 18, 1937, No. 1450. [Class 123 (iii)] Positioning bands for parallelly arranged tubes particularly applicable to smoke tube superheater elements, comprise a number of juxtaposed endless metal bands 5, 6 each embracing a number of tubes different from those embraced by an adjacent band and having between the bights which partially embrace a tube a portion 5a, 6a with its outer surface lying against a tube not embraced by the band. The bands may be close together or spaced slightly apart and may be secured by small deposits of weld metal. Blocks 9, 10 support the assembly within the smoke tube. Another arrangement for a group of five tubes including a central larger tube provides four bands each embracing a pair of the outer tubes, the bands lying in two or four transverse planes of the element. A further construction for a group of six circularly arranged tubes consists of two bands each embracing three alternate tubes. The bands may be cut from tubing and pressed to shape or made from strip metal and the ends butt or lap welded or riveted together:
