Abstract
488,788. Grading eggs by weighing. KLEIN, H. Jan. 11, 1937, No. 750. [Class 143] An egg-grading machine comprises a cup 4, Fig. 3, eccentrically pivoted on the end of a counterbalanced or weighing lever 3 and adapted when unloaded, to be retained in an horizontal or stable position by an associated counterweight 8, and when loaded with an egg to be maintained in this position by a weighted or spring-loaded catch 12 until the catch is tripped by an appropriate abutment in its path of movement. As shown, the machine comprises a continuously driven wheel 1, Fig. 2, on which the cup-carrying levers 3 are pivoted. The cups are carried on depending arms 6 carrying the counterweights 8 and lie in contact with the vertical links 9 of the parallelogram linkages of the scales. The depending arms 6 are prevented from tipping about the pivots 5 as the eggs are placed therein, by the weighted catch levers 12 which are pivoted on the lower end of the vertical links 9. The weighing levers 3 are depressed to extents depending on the weights of the eggs, and are carried past a series of abutments 13 arranged at different heights so that the catches 12 are released by the abutments and the eggs are tipped according to their weights into grading compartments 19.
