Abstract
488,756. Retractive switches. POLO, L. July 10, 1937, No. 19203. [A Specification was laid open to inspection under Sect. 91 of the Acts, Jan. 28, 1938.] [Class 38 (v)] A stand for an electric iron has a movable flap 2 adapted to be depressed by the weight of the iron against the action of a spring thereby opening a switch situated away from the stand through the medium of a wire 8 moving in a sheath 9. The flap 2 may be held in its upper position by moving a manually-operated lever 20 into the dotted position if it is desired to heat up the iron when it is on the stand. The switch may be a tilting mercury switch 13 contained in a casing provided with a plug 14 for connecting it to a network and a plug 16 for connecting it to the iron 4. In a modification, Fig. 5, a movable flap 29 on the stand rotates a member 51 about its axis 52 thereby winding the wire 8 round a curved portion 53. The wire 8 is connected at its other end to a spring-biassed plunger having a broadened end adapted to separate two rollers on two spring contact arms thereby separating the contacts, Fig. 6 (not shown).
