Abstract
488,749. Drop-box motions. BLACKBURN LOOM & WEAVING MACHINERY MAKING CO., Ltd., and WATSON, E. June 2, 1937, No. 15267. [Class 142 (iii)] The box rod R is carried by a lever Q pivoted on a lever O, these levers being raised and lowered by eccentric, rods n<1> and straps n operated by respective eccentrics N each fixed to a respective pinion J with which a recessed disc j is combined. One or both of the pinions, only one of which is shown, are rotated on a shaft K to operate the boxes by toothed sectors H pivoted on levers E, which are pivoted side by side on a shaft D. The levers E have bowls e<2> engaging tuning cams F fast on the tappet shaft G, whilst the toothed sectors are acted upon by springs L and have bowls engaging grooved driving cams M on the shaft G. Normally, projections V on the levers E are engaged by steps U on arms A and both sectors H are held out of gear with the respective pinions J. By means of control rods adjustably attached &c. to the arms A and controlled by the dobby or card mechanism, one or both arms A may be raised. An arm A, thus raised is disengaged from the corresponding projection V, and as soon as the timing cam F permits, the respective lever E is moved by the spring L to cause its toothed sector to engage the corresponding pinion J, the driving cam M afterwards causing the sector to rock and turn the corresponding pinion J. The discs j fixed to the pinions have recesses co-operating with bowls j<3> on spring-controlled pivotedarms j<4> whereby the pinions J are held stationary when not engaged by the sectors H. By means of a hand-operated crank arm W and a shaft w, a shaft X provided with toothed sectors Y, Z can be rotated, the sectors then turning one or the other of the pinions J, whereby any required box may be brought level with the race board.
