Abstract

468,107. Loom change-box motions. SOC. ANON. A. SAURER. Aug. 10, 1936, No. 22011. Convention date, Sept. 12, 1935. [Class 142 (iii)] A drop-box motion comprises one or more mutilated pinions 13, Fig. 5, that are movable axially under control of pattern mechanism so as to co-operate with a reciprocating rack or an oscillating segmental driving gear 10, each pinion having flat toothless portions 19, 20 arranged diametrically on opposite faces to free the driver at the end of its stroke. Each rotary movement of the pinion is supplemented to half a revolution by a wide tooth 21 or 22 according to whether the pinion is oscillated to operate boxes at both ends of the loom or rotated intermittently in one direction only, the pinion being locked in the final position by a spring-loaded plunger 29 engaging one or other of two eccentric discs 23, 24. In the construction shown in Fig. 2, two pinions 13, adapted to be rotated by segments 9, 10 on a cam-oscillated member 7, are slidably but non-rotatably mounted on hubs 17, 18 respectively of two control discs 15, 16 which are connected by a pin 49 on the former slidably engaging a radial groove in an eccentric disc 41 that is rotatably mounted on an eccentric hub 40 of the disc 16, selective movement of the pinions 13 changing the relative positions of the eccentric hub 40 and disc 41 and operating a four cell drop box through an eccentric ring 42 and associated levers. Modifications are described in which two or more pinions 13 mounted on separate shafts are connected to the box rod by a system of levers and are operated by a reciprocating rack or an oscillating segmental gear.
