Abstract

488,494. Valves. ASIATIC PETROLEUM CO., Ltd., and RICHARDSON, A. W. Jan. 4, 1937, No. 224. [Class 135] In plug valves, for use, for example, in heating stoves of the creeping flame or short drum type, such as in Specification 487,505, [Group XI], the plug is formed with a cylindrical part 1 and a lower conical part 11 and is mounted in a casing 3 with correspondingly shaped seats, the inlet conduit 10 leading to a port in the conical wall while the outlet conduit leads from a port in the cylindrical wall. The plug, which has a manipulating head 12, has an axial passage 2 with a branch passage 5 leading to a groove 6 opposite the discharge port and extending wholly or substantially around the plug. The lower end of the passage 2 connects with a lower passage 7 opposite the inlet port and formed by cutting a notch in the conical part of the plug approximately half-way across. The lower part of the passage 2 may be fitted with an adjustable tapered throttling pin. When used in a system containing liquid fuel, the valve may be arranged so that the top of the housing is above the liquid level in the system so that no packing gland or cover is necessary. The axial passage and the outlet conduit may be extended upwardly to provide air vents.
