Abstract
18,524. Tooth, L. F. Aug. 12. Plug cocks.-A valve for supplying gas to a gas-fire having two sets of burners has a regulatable auxiliary duct so arranged that when only one set of burners is alight the gas is supplied through the auxiliary duct, thereby maintaining the gas pressure at the burners constant. Figs. 7, 8 represent in elevation and plan a valve in which gas enters at D and passes to the two sets of burners through ports F, G and passages A, B. When the valve is turned to close the port G, the port F diverts the gas through an auxiliary duct H leading into the passage A and having a regulating screw L. Fig. 28 shows a modification in which the auxiliary duct p having a regulating-screw L is in the plug instead of in the casing. In the position shown, gas enters at E and passes to both passages A, B. When the valve is turned so as to close the passage B, the auxiliary duct p moves into register with the passage A. In another modification, two auxiliary ducts are used, one leading into each of the outlet pipes so that either of the two sets of burners can be lit separately. The inlet pipe may be in a direct line with or at right angles to the outlet pipes, and the plug may be either of the hollow or the solid type.
