488,088. Testing tension of textile threads. REINERS, W., (trading as SCHLAFHORST & CO., W.). Nov. 24, 1937, No. 32368. Convention date, Jan. 12. [Class 106 (ii)] An appliance for testing the tension of textile threads or yarn while being operated on has, engaging with the thread a resilient or spring-loaded feeler 5 carrying a mirror 7 which reflects a beam of light on to photographic paper 15 which is taken from one reel 28 to another 29, driven by a synchronous motor 20, so producing a record of tension / time. The thread passes over pulleys 10 in casings 38 and is deflected by the feeler 5 in the casing 39 by a scissor action which may be varied in magnitude. Squeezing the trigger 31 closes an electric circuit through contacts 35, 36, operates the motor 20, and lights the lamp 1. The reels 28, 29 are enclosed in an air-tight cover 30 and may be driven at different speeds by changing the gears 24, 25. A mirror 8 is fixed to an arm 6 which may be attracted by a solenoid energized at intervals by some working part of the machine, and reflects a beam on to the sensitized paper producing a straight line with notches. Part of the beams from the mirrors 7, 8 may be deflected on to a visual scale.
