Abstract
4 - Nitro - 2 - amino - 1 - naphthol sulphonic acids are made by reducing a 2 : 4-dinitro-1-naphtholsulphonic acid with a sulphur compound of an alkaline earth metal free from oxygen. In an example, 2 : 4-dinitro-1-naphthol- 6-, 7-, or 8-sulphonic acid is heated with a suspension of magnesium sulphide obtained by mixing solutions of sodium sulphide and magnesium chloride to yield 2-amino-4 - nitro - 1 - naphthol - 6 -, 7 - or - sulphonic acid. Calcium hydrosulphide is also specified.
