487,553. Casting-machines. INJECTA AKT.-GES. July 31, 1937, No. 21303. Convention date, Aug. 7, 1936. [Class 83 (i)] Moulds.-Very fluid metal is poured, by hand, into the conduit 11 of a two-part chill mould 4 and then a plunger 26 is inserted and pressure applied to force the metal through restricted passages 33, 35 and slag-retaining chamber 35 into the mould cavity 10 at a moderate and even speed. When the mould is full the pressure in the mould increases to equal that applied by the plunger 26 and this is continued until the metal solidifies. All the solidified metal is ejected at once by pins 13. The plunger 26 is adjustable for position by arranging the cylinder 25, Fig. 2, on cross-slides 31, 32. Clamping moulds.-The mould may be opened and closed by a rack and pinion acting through toggles 24.
