Abstract
487,425. Hiring hair-drying appliances. SMITH, S. Jan. 28, 1937, No. 2462. [Class 27] [Also in Groups VI and XI] An apparatus for drying hair comprises in combination an electric fan B, an electric heating element F, and a coin operated meter or relay switch adapted to supply a predetermined quantity of current to the fan and element, the apparatus being self-contained and having a flexible pipe H provided with a nozzle H<1> for delivering the hot air to the head. An automatic cut out G to disconnect the heating resistance in the event of motor failure comprises a bimetallic strip G<1> which bends when the resistance becomes over heated, releasing the trip. The nozzle H<1> may be separated from the body of the hose by distance pieces and thus be kept cool. The relay and the casing of the hair drier may be in housings C, J mounted on a panel K with a mirror L between, or may be enclosed in a single casing having a mirror on the front. The casing is preferably of insulating material and if metallic hose is used this is preferably insulated from the apparatus.
