Abstract

487,102. Electrolytic condensers &c. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 15, 1937, No. 16623. Convention date, June 16, 1936. Drawings to Specification. [Class 37] An electrolyte suitable for use with filmforming electrodes in electrolytic condensers or rectifiers, comprises a mixture containing an amide of a monobasic organic acid containing less than five carbon atoms in the molecule and a film-forming ionogen. As amides, formamide, acetamide, propionamide, butyramide and lactamide are specified, and the ionogen may be the ammonium, sodium or potassium salt of an oxygen-containing acid, e.g. boric, phosphoric, acetic, propionic, crotonic, lactic or stearic acids. The electrolytes may be prepared by passing ammonia gas into a mixture of the amide with one or more acids until the mixture has a pH value of between 7 and 8. Water may be added to the mixtures to reduce the resistivity. Examples are given. Specification 465,299 is referred to.
