Abstract

485,054. Egg &c. cartons. NEWSOM, K. K. May 27, 1937, No. 14725. Convention date, June 8, 1936. [Class 18] Cartons for eggs and other fragile articles are stacked in a crate with the seatings 27, 28 for the articles which project inwardly, engaging flat-ended recesses 32, 33 in the bottom and top respectively of each carton. The cartons are thus stepped in relation to each other. Strengthening corrugations 27 are provided. The recesses 32, 33 may alternatively be domeshaped, a filler consisting of crossed strips, the edges of which are recessed semicircularly at the meeting points, being then employed, and the mouths of the seatings 27, 28 having vertically projecting lips. The upper and lower parts of the carton may in some cases be hinged together, and the two parts secured in closed position by a sealing tape round the meeting edges or by a transverse band. The sides and ends may be flattened at some points for advertising.
