Abstract

484,878. Toasting-apparatus. CROFT, C. M., and GLADWIN, J. R. F. Oct. 20, 1937, No. 28581. [Class 28 (i)] A toaster comprises plates 18, heated by gas-burners positioned between them and supplied by pipes 5, 11 controlled by a valve handle 6, grids 26 positioned in front of the hotplates to space the bread 31 therefrom, and carrier frames 28 hinged at 27 to side frames which secure the plates 18 in position, the frames 28 being spring-urged towards the grids 26. The side frames each comprise two parts 13, 14 nesting one within the other with an interposed lining of asbestos. The frames 13 have channel-shape recesses 13b in which the edges of the plates 18 are held, and lugs 13a in which the pivot holes 27 are formed. The parts 14 have depending lugs which engage in holes in the base 1, and inwardly projecting top flanges to which the roof member 17 is secured. The whole of the parts are held together by tie rods 20 which pass through the roof 17 and through the base, tightening being effected by nuts 25, 21. The carrier frames 28 have spikes 20 for impaling the bread. The springs 32 of the frames 28 are anchored in holes 33 in the lugs 13a. The grids 26 are made of wire secured to the platen 18. The base 1. and roof 17 are lined with asbestos ; and a lighting aperture 16 is provided in one set of end frames 13, 14.
