Abstract

483,438. Centrifugal separators. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. July 6, 1937, No. 18749. Convention date, July 18, 1936. [Class 23] An installation of separators 18 for the treatment of sludge-containing liquids is controlled by a regulating arrangement, so that when a suitable amount of sludge has been collected in each bowl it is ejected through peripheral ports which are then closed for continued operation. The bowl 1 of a separator has a sludge discharge port 2 which is opened by an hydraulically operated slide 3 after it has opened a channel 4 for the discharge of remanent liquid from the bowl. A tube 6 from the sludge space normally discharges liquid, through the chamber 8 to the vessel 9 from which the flow passes through the opening 11. This chamber 9 is on a balance arm and as long as the bowl works normally, the weight of the chamber is balanced by the weight 12. When, however, sludge accumulates in the bowl and the tube 6 becomes clogged, the liquid flow is diminished and the weight 12 drops to close the contacts 13. This closes the circuit of the motor 15 through a relay 14 and thereby causes the rotation of a number of cams 17 which act on contacts 17a. Circuits are closed to operate the valve A to cut off the supply from all the separators 18 and to open the valves 19 to move the slides 3 downwards for the discharge of sludge. Afterwards the valves 19 are closed and the valves 20 are opened to restore the slides to working position and the valve A is opened for the supply of liquid to the bowls 18.
