[Class 29] The irrigation louvres a of a cooling-tower are mounted between side frames b, b<1> extending across the tower and designed to accommodate one layer, the louvres being held in spaced relationship by distance pieces f inserted between their ends. An assembly of louvres and frames may form a unit which can be built as such into the irrigation system or the louvres may be mounted in the already erected frames. A stiffening member g extends for a part or the whole of the length of the unit and a transverse stiffener may also be provided. The assemblies may be carried on vertical spacing posts i, i<1>, bolted to beams h extending radially across the tower, two frames of adjacent units being disposed in the same horizontal plane between the posts and resting on pins k. Or to avoid the necessity for accurate dimensioning of the louvres, one frame may be disposed above the other, the louvre ends a<1> projecting freely. Triangular louvres may be carried in similar frames for the lowest layers, or the adjacent ends of two series may be mounted in a single frame. The main louvres may also be supported in this way in already mounted frames the ends of one series alternating in the frame with the ends of the adjacent series. A modified supporting post has metal brackets bolted at vertical intervals to carry the frames. Specifications 402,857 and 465,056 are referred to.
