Abstract

483,106. Moulding pulp &c. STEVENS, A. H. (Swift, jun., Inc., G. W.) March 10, 1937, No. 7066. [Class 87 (ii)] Articles such as egg containers are moulded from a pulp suspension containing 2 per cent by weight of pulp by dipping a mould 1 formed of a rigid porous body of stone-like material into a pulp vat 7 and applying suction to the rear face of the mould through a chamber 4. The mould is formed from a substance having the characteristics of Filtros ; it may be formed of refractorv material such as silica fused together with feldspar or clay. The mould is formed with a flange 8 which is retained between a clamping plate 10 and a ledge 9 on the chamber 4. To reduce the thickness of the pulp deposit over parts of the article, corresponding portions of the mould may be formed of finer grains or of greater thickness. The mould may be formed with receptacle-shaping portions divided by grooves having deep conical recesses at their intersections. The pulp deposit may be finished by couching and removed by pressure pulsation in the chamber 4. To clean the mould, it may be heated and clogging matter then blown out.
