483,057. Removing burrs from strips and other metal articles. CAMION, A. Oct. 10, 1936, No. 27545. [Classes 83 (ii), 83 (iii), and 83 (iv)] In a process for rendering harmless the burrs or sharp edges of metal articles formed in producing the articles, the burrs or sharp edges are replaced by toothed, milled or other portions or edges having small projections or protrusions thereon. The articles may be supported and a die used for the process of removing the burrs, or the article when in the form of a strip 1, Figs. 3 and 4, may be passed between supporting rolls 3, 16 relatively adjustable towards and away from one another, and the sharp edges acted upon by bevelled rollers 8. These rollers may have plain operating faces in which case the article is passed through a, similar device in which the rolls 8 have milled or other faces 15 to produce the small projections or protrusions above referred to. A number of devices may be arranged to operate on a work piece in series. The work may be driven through the device by arranging for the guiding rolls to be driven or in some cases the work may be pulled through the device by hand. The work and milled &c. tools may travel at different linear speeds so that the projections formed on the edges of the work may be partially levelled. Instead of devices arranged in series a pair of oblique members 8, Fig. 7, may be combined to act simultaneously on all the edges of a. strip such as a band iron.
