Abstract

482,619. Waterproofing. SCHWARTZ, F. F., and CHAVANNES, M. A. Dec. 12, 1936, No. 34199. Convention date, Dec. 19, 1935. [Class 140] Textile materials are rendered water-repellent by treatment with an aqueous solution of an aluminium salt containing an organic liquid which is not soluble in water in all proportions, which lowers the surface tension of the solution to facilitate wetting of the textile and which has a boiling point not exceeding 130‹ C., so that it is removed from the textile on drying. Suitable aluminium salts are the acetate and lactate. The organic liquid may be an alcohol or ketone, e.g. butyl or isobutyl alcohol.
