[Class 38 (i)] The junction box 2 laid on the foundation layer 1 of a floor, is provided with upright walls 15 to receive supply cables 13 in conduits 6 and with inclined walls 16 having screwed apertures 10 to receive the conduits 7 containing the leads 14 running to a consuming device. The floor is built up around the box by layers 3, 4, 5 of which the layer 4 may be impervious to oil and noise-insulating while the covering 5 may be of wood or asphalt plates recessed at 19 to allow the conduits to be inserted, the recesses afterwards being filled to floor level (as shown). A suitable lid 17, retained by screws, is arranged to be level with the floor 18. Terminals 12 for connecting the various leads 13, 14 are provided on an insulating block 11 contained in the box. In an alternative construction, Figs. 3 and 4 (not shown), one of the apertures 10 in each side wall is replaced by a horizontal passage which is bent upwardly to allow a socket member of a plug coupling to be inserted in the vertical portion of the passage. In a further modification, Fig. 5, the box 121 is lined with insulating material 28<1> and packing 171 is placed in the channel 15<1> between the outer wall and the inner wall of the box to form a water-tight joint. Lengths of conduit 19<1> may have bent ends to engage the apertures in the box and may be reversed to occupy a position such as 19<11> when it is desired to make connection to a consuming device 23<1>. A member 27<1> projecting from the base of the box helps to support the lid 14<1> and is surrounded by insulating material 28<1> over which is passed an insulating ring 29<1> carrying terminals 30<1>.
