481,991. Ventilating systems and apparatus. POLO, L. Nov. 24, 1936, No. 32126. Convention date, Nov. 25, 1935. [Class 137] The air space in an enclosure is divided and ventilated by providing an air curtain which is established by introducing air under pressure at one edge of the curtain, and evacuating the air by reduction of pressure at the opposite edge of the curtain., In Fig. 2 is shown an opening between two rooms, air being forced through apertures such as 8 in duct 9, and withdrawn by similar apertures in duct 10, an air curtain 11 being formed which entrains some of the air from each room, and thus assists ventilation. An air curtain may be formed around a bed by supplying the air under pressure from a conduit 22, Fig. 4, and abstracting it through a perforated conduit 20 around the bed, which is not shown, the air curtain 23 isolating the atmosphere immediately adjacent the bed from that in the room, thus serving, if required, as a mosquito curtain. The air may be mixed with disinfectants, or ozonized before use. A passage, for example, into a shop from the street has perforated pressure and vacuum ducts 24, 25 at each side, an air valve 27 controlled by an electromagnet 28 being energized when a person steps on a loose board so that the air valve is closed and the air current cut off when a person. passes between the ducts. The air may be conditioned before use, and mixed with smoke or colouring matter to give it opacity or colouration.
