Abstract

o-Hydroxyazo-dyestuffs capable of being chromed are manufactured by coupling an o-hydroxydiazo compound with an N-alkyl-, N-aralkyl- or N-aryl-derivative of 2-amino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid. Examples describe the preparation of the following dyestuffs: (1) 4-nitro-2-aminophenol --> 2-phenylamino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid (the product dyes wool in an acid bath bluish green shades, becoming grey when after-chromed); (2) picramic acid --> 2-dimethylamino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid (green shades becoming olive when after-chromed); (3) 4-chloro-2-aminophenol-6-sulphonic acid --> 2-phenylamino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid (green shades becoming grey when after-chromed). A table shows the properties of further dyestuffs, the following additional components being specified; diazo components: 6-nitro-4-methyl-2-aminophenol, 6-nitro-4-chloro-2-aminophenol, 4 : 6-dichloro-2-aminophenol, 5-nitro-2-aminophenol, 6 nitro-2-aminophenol-4-sulphonic acid; coupling components: the N-41-ethoxyphenyl-and N-benzyl-derivatives, the glycine and the N-methyl-w-sulphonic acid of 2-amino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid. 2 - Amino - 6 - naphthol - 8 - sulphonic acid derivatives.-The compounds specified as coupling components are obtainable by reacting 2-amino-6-naphthol-8-sulphonic acid with aniline and sulphite, with a methylating agent such as methyl chloride, with p-phenetidine in the presence of sulphite, with a benzyl halide, with a halogenacetic acid and with formaldehyde and bisulphite respectively.
