Abstract

481,634. Wheel tyres. GRAY, B. P. Jan. 22, 1937, Nos. 2026 and 2251. [Class 144 (ii)] Non-skid devices of the kind described in Specifications 433,121, 443,427,457,464, 457,533, 465,784, 469,658, 469,727, and 472,501, consisting of embedded plates with radiallyextending tread elements, are now constructed or arranged so that some of the ground-engaging portions of the devices are disposed within the original tread surface of the tyre to become operative on wear of the latter. Fig. 1 shows a form in which channel-shaped plates 10 are arranged in two alternating sets 15, 16, the road-engaging surfaces 14 of the latter set being originally disposed below the tread surface 12 of the tyre. Figs. 3 and 7 show modifications in which the progressive action of the devices is obtained by means of stepped formations 17, 18 on the end-walls 13 of the plates.
