Abstract

481,503. Driving and withdrawing piles. WOHLMEYER, J. Aug. 10, 1936, No. 22014. Convention date, Aug. 9, 1935. [Class 68 (ii)] [Also in Groups XXII and XXVI] A fluid-pressure-actuated hammer for piledriving, pile-drawing, &c. is provided with separate feed pipes to the usual valve chest for effecting upward and downward strokes, the upward feed pipe 8 having a throttle valve 7 and the downward feed pipe 5 a two-way valve 11 which, in one position for pile-driving, gives free passage to the pressure fluid to effect downward striking strokes and in the other position for pile-drawing, as shown, may be adjusted to regulate the rate of entry of air from the atmosphere during downward return strokes. The pipes may be of considerable length with the valves remote from the apparatus. Fluid heating means, the effect of which is proportioned to the flow, may be provided. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 comprises also the provision of a throttle valve or a spring-loaded container of variable capacity on one only of the pipes. This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
