Abstract
481,393. Pen-stands &c. PHILLIPS, S. R. Feb. 23, 1937, No. 5341. [Class 146 (iii)] In a device for anchoring articles such as pencils, pens, or erasers, of the kind comprising a tension-controlled retracting element, preferably of the spring-roller type, to which the pencil or other article is attached, means are associated with the mounting for attaching or securing it in any position, and the element is adapted to be removably inserted into a cavity in the mounting by means of an expandable aperture. The device comprises a sucker base c, Fig. 1, secured to or moulded integrally in rubber with an upright member a, formed with a chamber b for the spring-roller element e and with a funnel-shaped extension d to receive the pencil. The element e is introduced through a window i of smaller dimensions. The cord h connecting the pencil with the element e passes into the extension d. Alternatively, the mounting may be secured in position by screws or nails. In a modification, the device is permanently secured to or integral with a pad K, Fig. 4, formed with a lip m to fit over and grip the rectangular or round base o of a telephone or other device. The mounting and pad are formed wholly or in part of rubber. Either construction may be provided with metal stiffening pieces.
