Abstract
481,378. Cooling systems for compressors. BELLISS & MORCOM, Ltd., and MASTERMAN, A. L. Oct. 3, 1936, No. 26873. [Class 29] Cooling-water circulating in a, closed cycle through a compressor a, Fig. 1, driven by a steam turbine b, is cooled by evaporation in vacuo in a vessel i, the vacuum being maintained by a steam ejector n discharging into the surface condenser h of the turbine. The condenser cooling-water is circulated by a pump f through tubes c of a surface cooler d for the water-vapour of the vessel i before it enters the condenser. Make - up water is supplied to the vessel i from the condensate pump p through a pipe r and float valve s. In the system shown in Fig. 2 the ejector n discharges into a jet condenser h for the turbine, and make-up water is supplied from the condensate of an auxiliary surface condenser t for the turbine. The cooler d is traversed by water on its way to the jet condenser.
