Abstract

480,934. Seals. LANKFORD, J. R. July 20, 1937, No. 20061. [Class 146 (ii)] A deformable seal adapted to be engaged about a string, wire, or strap and to be irremovable without damage after being deformed, incorporates a container for a record card or the like, the container being closed when the seal is affixed so that the card cannot then be removed without breaking the seal. The seal comprises a tube, 1 Fig. 2, of lead or other material deformable with or without moderate heat, such as waxed cardboard or papier machÚ, formed with slots 2. The record card 5, of length and breadth corresponding to the length and circumference of the seal, may be torn along perforated lines 6, Fig. 3, from a loaf of a book and is provided with a central panel 8 and end panels 7 which carry designs difficult to counterfeit. After entering the desired indicia on the panel 8 the card is rolled round a rod and inserted into the seal together with the wires 9 to be sealed. The rod is withdrawn and the portions 3 of the seal are crushed to grip the wire and the panels 7 of the card. When the seal has been destroyed and the card released it may be stuck to a gummed interleaf in the book. The book may also be provided with counterfoils 10. The seal may take the form of a receptacle through which the wires are passed and which is closed on the card by a press, or may be closed on the card at only one end or the middle, or be shaped to facilitate the application of the sealing press, and may be crushed or perforated during sealing.
