480,557. Adhesive-coated paper and fabrics. CREED & CO., Ltd. April 19, 1937, No. 11123. Convention date, April 23, 1936. [Classes 96 and 140] Paper or cloth coated with a water-soluble adhesive, e.g. for telegraph printers, is protected against deleterious absorption of moisture from the air by a layer consisting of a product of starch hydrolysis intermediate between starch and dextrin and incapable, under normal conditions of temperature and humidity, of forming an adhesive bond for paper exceeding the strength of the paper. As a modification, the protective layer may be formed by adding a small proportion, e.g. ¢-1 per cent, of starch to an insoluble type adhesive dextrin. The protective layer may be sprayed or dusted on to the adhesive coating as the material passes through the drying mechanism ; or it may be applied in the form of a solution.
