[Class 40 (ii)] The unplayed records are supported on a table 28 with a central spindle 35 and are transferred successively to the turntable 27 by a feed-arm 1, mounted for rotary movement on a vertical shaft 4, and provided at its free end with a rotatable arm 24, the end of which carries a pin 25 which engages with the central hole of the topmost record to effect transference thereof, and is disengaged therefrom, when the record is in position on the turntable, by a rod 12 which tilts the arm 1 upwardly about a horizontal pivot 2. One end of the rod 12 is connected to a projecting lug 14 of a bracket 15 mounted below the arm 1 and forming a bearing for the shaft 4, and the other end is connected to a rod 18 sliding longitudinally within the feed arm and having a rack portion 19 which engages with a pinion 23 attached to the arm 24. The combined pivoting movements of the feed arm 1 and the short arm 24 result in a substantially parallel motion of the feed pin. When the record is positioned correctly on the turntable, the end of the rackbar 18 contacts with an adjustable stop at the end of the feed-arm, further lateral movement of which causes the feed arm to be lifted to disengage the feed pin from the record, as described previously. The feed-arm is then rotated into a neutral position intermediate the turntable and magazine, and the supporting spindle 4 is raised by means of one of two cams 29, 30, and a pivoted follower 31. The oscillatory movements of the feed arm are imparted by an eccentric 43 which actuates a horizontal rack member 47 in engagement with an elongated pinion 49 at the lower end of the spindle 4. During the transference of a record to the turntable, the feed arm 1 is positively coupled with the spindle 4 by means of a pin 6 at the end thereof which engages with a bracket 3 in which the pivot 2 is mounted, but during the return movement of the feed-arm, the latter is resiliently coupled with the spindle 4 by means of a spring 7 connected to the pin 6 and the bracket 3. The feed-arm may be rotated about the pivot 2 for adjustment by a screw carried by the bracket, and engaging with the undersurface of the feed-arm.
