[Class 40 (ii).] Relates to machines of the kind producing or employing ribbon records having a number of parallel sound-traces thereon. According to the invention, for raising and lowering the soundbox or pick-up, a cam or eccentric is provided between the recording or reproducing member and the pivotal axis of its carrying arm, and means are also provided for adjusting the position of the arm in a direction transverse to the direction of travel of the sound record. In the machine shown, the pick-up arm 1, which is pivoted on an horizontal support 15, has an aperture 9 in which is located a cam 6, mounted on a spindle 10. An adjustable pin 8 on the arm is adapted to be engaged by the cam when this is turned by means of a knob 7, for gradually raising or lowering the pick-up. A spring 13 bears against a portion 12 of the spindle 10, having flats on opposite sides, to hold the cam in its highest or lowest position. In order to set the arm 1 so that the needle can engage in any required sound-track on the strip 4, means for traversing the arm 1 are provided, consisting of a screw 16 passing through the pivot support 15, and coacting with a spring-actuated rod 25 having an arm 26. A spring detent 22 is adapted to engage in notches in a milled-edged disc 17 on the screw 16, the disc bearing a numbered scale which indicates the settings for the respective sound-grooves.
