Abstract
479,188. Bag fastenings. SCHERR, and ROHS, J. Aug. 16, 1937, No. 22452. Convention date, Dec. 23, 1936. [Class 44] A fastening or closure for bags, and particularly ladies' hand-bags, comprises a series of telescopic tubular members 4, slotted to embrace, when extended, bars of U-section fixed to the bag mouth. One bar extends completely along one edge of the mouth and has the smallest tubular member 4a secured to it permanently near one end. The other bar 3 terminates near the inner end of a filling piece 31, similar in section to bar 3. The piece 31 is secured within member 4a and is of a length sufficient to accommodate the members 4 when nested together at one end, in which position the bag may be opened. When the bag is closed, bar 3 aligns with piece 3<1> and members 4 can then be extended to effect fastening. The lower ribs 5 of the bars converge towards the upper ribs, so that in the extended position terminal member 4b is positively supported by the rib to prevent play.
