Abstract
340,702. Satchels &c. SMITH, W. B., Allcroft Works, Spring Road, Hall Green, Birmingham. Nov. 8, 1929, No. 34080. [Class 133.] A satchel or bag comprises a flexible external part attached to a foldable metal framework consisting of two side frames c, Fig. 2, connected at the ends by oblique transverse stays d. Each side frame comprises top, bottom, and end bars. This framework is permanently connected by rivets, as at f, Fig. 1, to the flexible exterior structure, which comprises sides a2, a<3>, ends a4, bottom a<5>, foldable flaps a<6> at the ends, and a foldable flap a<7> at one side, to close over the top of the end flaps after they have been folded inwardly and secured together by tapes a<8>. The oblique stays, d, allow the sides of the metal framework to fold close to one another or to open out carrying the exterior structure with them. A stop device d<4> limits the opening out of the framework. A flexible wire container g, Fig. 3, adapted to be removably secured inside the exterior structure by snapbutton or like fastenings h, is conveniently made of waterproof material, and its upper edges are provided with a draw string g<3>. By securing a suitable metal bracket to the bottom bar of the framework, and providing the top bar with straps and buckles, the satchel may be attached to the frame of a cycle.
