[Class 60] In a grinding-machine having two grinding- wheels c each provided with a work-rest l, the wheels are driven from a single motor g, but each wheel is carried by its own shaft a and is driven through change-speed gearing comprising stepped pulleys and belts h, and a speeddiameter limiting device is provided for each wheel. The motor is mounted on a platform pivoted to the machine frame and adjustable, to adjust the belt tension, by bolts g<2>, and associated with the belts for each wheel is a belt-fork, comprising rods carried by a sleeve j<1> slidable on a rod s in the frame. Each work-rest l is slidably adjustable to and from the wheel o by a bolt o movable in a slot in a vertically adjustable bracket m. the bolt being pivoted to a rod q carrying a plate r resting on the sleeve j<1> and provided with a stepped slot or gate r<1>, the slot being engaged by a square lug j<2> on the sleeve j<1>; the rest l thus may be adjusted until the end of a slot in the plate r engages the lug, when, in order to permit of further adjustment the sleeve j<1> and the belts h must be moved to carry the belts onto the next step of the pulleys. In a modification, a stud carried by a lever engages the gate, the lever being connected to the sleeve j<1> by a link. Instead of each wheel c being on a separate shaft, the two wheels may be mounted rotatably on a single shaft. A wheel guard x connected at y to an exhaust conduit is provided.
