[Class 26] [Also in Group XXIX] A waste-valve arrangement for baths, sinks, and like receptacles, especially dual receptacles comprising a laundry tub and a kitchen sink having a common hollow wall, comprises an auxiliary wall 11 spaced apart from a wall 10 of the receptacle so as to form a separate chamber 12, and a gate valve 39 which is guided obliquely on to a seat 36 located in an aperture in the wall 11. The top of the chamber 12 is closed by a slotted cover 17 which provides the overflow passage and also a guide for the handle 22. The bottom of the chamber 12 merges into a sump 15 connected to a soil pipe at 16. The bottom 14 of the receptacle coincides with the base of the valve seat aperture which is recessed on one side to receive a grating 25. The valve seat member, Fig. 5, is clamped to the grating 25 by a screw 32 passing into a vertical web 30. Flanged triangular guide wings 37 on the valve seat co-operate with triangular wings 40 on the valve 39 to force the latter to its seat as it is lowered by the handle 22. The lower edge of the valve cuts through any foreign matter impeding its closure. An operating rod 44 with a stop member 46 is screwed into the handle 22 and pivotally connected to the valve 39. Due to the resilience of the rod 44, the bottom of the handle snaps over on to the top of the cover 17 and retains the valve open.
