Abstract
477,053. Coke-oven doors. CROAD, A. K. (Wilputte, L. N.) July 10, 1936, No. 19188. [Class 55 (i)] [Also in Group XVIII] A coke-oven door comprises three main sections, a rigid outer section A, an intermediate flexible sealing plate B and an inner plug C, the whole being secured against a frame D by locking bars E engaging hooks d. The refractory plug C is reinforced by a longitudinal I-beam C<1> capable of relative expansion and is connected only at the top and bottom to the other sections of the door by bolts F, G, I which extend through all the sections. The plug rests on a foot member C3 through which passes the bolt F. The sections A, B are spaced apart by members A<4>, A<5>. The upper end of the beam C<1> is capable of longitudinal movement through the clamping part H. Between its upper and lower ends the flexible plate B is capable of transverse movement to accommodate itself to deformation of the door or frame D, and bolts J are provided around the periphery of the door A to press the plate B against the frame D. The closed door is supported with a clearance above the sill, by means of lugs A<7> which rest on lugs D<2> projecting from the frame D. Preferably these lugs are arranged near the bottom of the door so that the top of the door tends to turn inwardly. The locking bars E are connected by links K to a rocking member L pivoted to the door section A. A bracket M is provided for engagement by a door-lifting hook. An opening may be provided in the upper part of the door for the passage of a levelling bar. The opening is closed by a door O mounted on a box-like extension AS of the outer door section A A, which is clamped to the flexible sheet B A by bolts P. The edges of the sheet B A are protected from overheating by a frame Q. The plug C A terminates below the opening. Specifications 468,412; 471,775, [Group XVIII], and 471,849 are referred to.
