Abstract
476,730. Collapsable vehicle bodies. TENNANT, W. J. (Motor Terminals, Inc.) June 22, 1937, No. 17401. [Class 108 (i)] A motor vehicle adapted to be shipped in knock-down form and to be assembled when desired comprises a floor frame having permanently connected side sills removable side walls for attachment to the side sills and comprising separate sheets and means for securing them together at their edges, and a roof having a downwardly projecting member adapted to engage the side wall and be removably attached thereto. The rectangular floor frame comprises side and end sills 10 having flanges 11, 12 together with transverse metal beams 15 secured by their flanges 17 and plates 18 to the side sills 10 and wooden beams 20 extending between the metal beams 15. Floor boards 25 are secured in place and the floor is secured to the chassis sills by means of bolts passing through the latter and angle plates carried by the beams 15. Upright corner pillars 40, 41 are bolted to the floor sills and as shown in Fig. 4, the side panels 50 56 are connected to the uprights and interconnected by angle bars 60 by means of bolts 65 which do not protrude beyond the inner surface of the side panels. The roof comprises a transversely corrugated plate 70 which is bolted at 80 to an eaves plate 71 provided with depending flanges 72, 74 to form a channel embracing the upper end of the side wall. Bolts 77 pass through the side panels, flanges 74, 72 and spacing sleeves 75. Doors 55 together with end doors may be provided.
