475,389. Shock-absorbers; stabilizing vehicle suspensions. CUPPER, O., and ZENZ, W. Feb. 18, 1937, Nos. 4929 and 4930. Convention dates, Aug. 17, 1936 and Oct. 1, 1936. [Classes 108 (ii) and 108 (iii)] A shock - absorber or vehicle stabilizer comprises a piston or pistons 4, 5 adapted to be operated by a rotatable circular eccentric 8 on which one or more rings 11 adapted to engage the piston or pistons are rotatably mounted. In the hydraulic shock-absorber shown in Fig. 1, the pistons 4, 5, are spring-pressed and slide in cylinders 2, 3 interconnected by a conduit having a restricted passage, whereas, for a vehicle stabilizing-device, the cylinders 2, 3 of the stabilizer on one side of the vehicle are connected with the corresponding cylinders of the stabilizer on the other side. Figs. 2, 3 show a construction in which the eccentric is in the form of a crank 25 having a crank-pin 26 on which are mounted two similar concentric rings 27, 28. the pistons 21, 22 having hardened end-plates 23, 24 bearing on the rings. In a further construction (not shown) two eccentrics of similar or different eccentricities arranged side-by-side act on the individual pistons of a double-acting shockabsorber or stabilizer.
