Abstract
475,314. Liquid fuel burners. SPRENGER; E. Feb. 12, 1937, No. 4205. [Class 75 (i)] One or more oil burners are secured in the fire-door of a steam generator, and steam supplied through a hollow space in the firedoor circulates through the burners and becomes superheated before being discharged to atomize the fuel. The burners each comprise an atomizing head 2 connected by a steam jacket 1 to a block 3. The block 3 and a nut 20 screwing on the jacket 1 are provided with conical surfaces 17, 21 enabling the burner to be secured steam -tightly to conically seated bosses on the fire-door 15. Steam supplied through a pipe 31 to a chamber 24 in the fire-door passes through passages 23, 25 to the steam jacket 1 and then through pipes 13, 11 to a passage 10 in the head 2 to atomize the oil issuing from a passage 4 after passing through a pipe 5 in the steam jacket. A steam control valve 12 arranged in the block 3 has two " closed " positions ; one steam is completely shut off and in the other sufficient steam is allowed to pass to keep the burner cool whilst the firebox cools. The oil supply to the burners is effected through a common distributer 28, preferably regulated automatically. 3-Way shut off valves 6 are provided for each burner, one position of the valves allowing access to be had to the pipe 5 through a passage 8 for cleaning. Access can similarly be had to the pipe 11 on removing a plug 14 and turning the valve 12 to the open position. The fire-door is provided with a small service door 26 fitted with a micacovered inspection aperture 27. Flexible pipe connections allow the door to be opened without removing the burners.
