Abstract
475,164. Locking levers. MUDIE, A. B. May 12, 1936, No. 13458. [Class 80 (iii)] [Also in Group XXXVII] Slow-motion operating-gear, particularly for electric motor controllers, comprises an operating member 1 associated with a spring-pressed L-shaped pawl 5 having a part 15 which engages in succession the teeth 4 of a fixed rack whereby the pawl is rocked relatively to the member 1 to bring an abutment 16 on the pawl into a position in which it engages the next tooth 4 of the rack so as to act as a stop, the spring 11 operating, after each tooth has been passed to restore the pawl 5 to its original position and permit, continued movement of the member 1. The member 1, pivoted at 2, moves over a quadrant 3 provided with teeth 4 which are of ratchet form to permit a quick return movement of the member 1. The pawl 5, pivoted at 6 to the underside of the member 1, has an arm 9, and an.arm 10 at right-angles thereto, the spring 11 being attached to the arm 9 and adjustably anchored to a lug 13 on the underside of the member 1. A roller 15 on the pawl 5 engages the outer ends of the teeth 4 in succession to rock the pawl and cause the surface 16 of the arm 10 to engage the radial side of the next tooth 4 and act as a stop, until a slight backward movement allows the spring 11 to return the pawl. The spacing of the teeth, the proportions of the pawl, and the strength of the spring may be such that the motion of the member 1 is interrupted only if the operator attempts to move it too quickly.
