Abstract

474,877. Vacuum cleaners. JACKSON, L. MELLERSH-. (Quadrex Corporation) Feb. 24, 1937, No. 5505. [Classes 8 (i) and 8 (ii)] [Also in Group XXV] The cleaner includes a motor suction unit 1, a manually-removable annular dirt receptacle 2, an up-draught air duct 3, a yieldable spider 4 to hold the filter 5, a top 6, and a handle 7, arranged coaxially, annularly and rigidly. The top rim of the receptacle engages a seat on the spider and is locked thereto in an air-tight manner. The filter contains an up duct 8 sewn on the inner wall. A housing 14 surrounds the motor which drives the fan 16. An outer casing 17 provides a spiral passage for the dust-laden air and is arranged around the motor casing. The part 4 is supported on the handle by a pin 19. The inner filter tube 21 is secured to the spider by a hem containing a flat spring 22. A knob on the receptacle draws off and snaps in over a spring when the receptacle is removed and replaced. A cam 31 with handle is arranged beneath the spring to effect locking. Alternatively, spring-loop latches, Fig. 6, may be used.
